UFC fan favorite Dustin Poirier is recovering from successful foot surgery that took place on Thursday.

‘The Diamond’ has been laid up in the hospital this past week fighting a staph infection. Despite some early difficulties, it appeared that antibiotics were working to stop the infection and as a result, he was sent home. Unfortunately, Poirier was readmitted to the hospital due to the discovery of an abscess. Dustin Poirier’s wife Jolie updated fans on the situation in an Instagram post.

“For those asking about Dustins foot… He has a bad staph infection that started Saturday, didn’t respond to oral antibiotics & he was unable to walk,” Jolie Poirier wrote prior to Dustin’s surgery. “Sunday we went into the ER & they admitted him for cellulitis. They released him early Wednesday morning but after a 2nd MRI it showed there was an abscess that needs to be drained. So now he’s back in the hospital for surgery. I’ll post an update once he’s out. Thank you everyone for the kind words & support.”

An hour later, Jolie Poirier posted another brief update, letting everyone know that her husband was out of surgery and finally on the road to recovery.

“Surgery went well, and just like they expected,” Jolie wrote. “Now on to recovery.”

Dustin Poirier Responds to Conor McGregor While in the Hospital

Dustin Poirier also offered a response on Instagram putting on notice any person talking trash about ‘The Diamond’ while he was laid up in the hospital.

“About to bounce back! Nobody’s safe. Everyone talking shit and kicking when im down, thats coward movements. I want all the smoke. El Diamante.”

Poirier’s post is a likely reference to lightweight rival Conor McGregor who decided to make light of Poirier’s infection in a since-deleted tweet.

“Karma the left paw an all haha chop that thing off keep it for Halloween,” McGregor wrote.

Poirier and McGregor have been at odds with one another dating back to 2014 when the two first met inside the Octagon at UFC 178. McGregor scored a first-round knockout of ‘The Diamond’ on that night. Fast forward seven years, the two warriors came together for a rematch at UFC 257 in January 2021. Poirier got his long-awaited revenge, knocking out the former two-division champion in the second round.

With the series tied 1-1, they met for an immediate rematch at UFC 264 in July 2021. Dustin Poirier would once again earn a win via knockout as McGregor would tragically break his leg near the end of the first round. He is yet to return to the Octagon.
