Marcus McGhee has emerged as a bantamweight to watch after winning at LFA 149.

‘The Maniac’ is a 32-year-old bantamweight who trains with UFC fighters Sean O’Malley and Mario Bautista at The MMA Lab in Phoenix, Arizona. He made his first 2023 appearance in the LFA 149 co-main event against Luciano Ramos, who trains at the Nick Diaz Academy.

During the fight week, Ramos lived up to the Diaz brand by getting into an altercation with ‘The Maniac.’ Unfortunately for ‘El Aguila,’ McGhee led the dance on fight night and didn’t let up until he secured a second-round TKO.

‘The Maniac’ advanced his pro-MMA record to 6-1, with all his wins by KO/TKO. It’s hard to imagine someone who trains with O’Malley and Bautista not being a high-class striker, but McGhee’s composure and fight IQ made a statement on January 6.

Marcus McGhee reacts to his win at LFA 149

Marcus McGhee made his LFA debut in July 2022, losing by a first-round submission against Rafael do Nascimento. He bounced back in another promotion before returning to the UFC feeder promotion against Luciano Ramos. After winning in dominant fashion, McGhee reacted to the win on Instagram by saying:

“Friday was a movie, to say the least, and I’m beyond grateful for those who showed up, tuned in, and showed love to me and my team. The constant support and positive energy, I’ve received is beyond me and I want to genuinely thank everyone on this journey with me…”

‘The Maniac’ fought three times in 2022 and plans to stay active in the new calendar year. He also had this to say in his celebration post on Instagram:

“Thank you to @lfafighting for the opportunity and platform to showcase my skill set. If I can even give back half of the love I’ve received through the years I would be blessed! The grind doesn’t stop here though and as they say, the show must go on!!!!! 6-1 baby!!!!!”

Although the 32-year-old is slightly older than most prospects, 2023 could be his breakout year. McGhee is exciting and continues to evolve into a well-rounded mixed martial artist. It could be only a matter of time before the UFC matchmakers give ‘The Maniac’ a call.
