E3 is an oddity. It’s completely unnecessary, as at the end of the day, having a big booth at E3, with scantily clad ladies cosplaying trying to get you to play whatever game it maybe. Having giant press conference showing off games that are months and years away. Would people not play these games if they weren’t shown at E3? Of course they’d still play them. The people who are watching E3 are the people who are going to play your games. You don’t need are big fancy showcase to sell them to these people. E3 is basically a penis measuring contest, and you know what? That’s entirely okay because it’s still highly entertaining.
Sure Sony and Microsoft could save a ton of money by putting on a pre-recorded press conference like Konami and Nintendo do. It would get the same message across, but that’s not what wins a penis measuring contest. Sony looks to take this one step further, as they’ll be streaming their press conferences live to movie theaters across America this E3.
