Mark Hunt had his MMA debut at PRIDE Critical Countdown 2004, and he was defeated from Hidehiko Yoshida via armbar. After this fight, he won 4 opponents in the row, including the K-1 world champion Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic.
He is defeated by Fedor Emelianenko in the PRIDE Fighting Championship Finals via kimura. Melvin Manhoef knocked him out after only 18 seconds in the first round, which is Hunt’s quickest defeat. The Doctor had the score of 5-6 before joining the UFC. In the moment of joining, Hunt was on a cold streak of five losses.
Mark Hunt – UFC Career
Mark Hunt had his UFC debut against Sean McCorkle at UFC 119 on September 25, 2010, in Indianapolis, Indiana. McCorkle won via straight armbar submission in the first round.
Hunt had his first UFC victory against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 on February 27, 2011, via spectacular right uppercut to the chin. It was his first Knockout Of The Night, and he earned the reputation of “The King Of Walk-Off” after this match.
In the next fight, Mark Hunt defeated Ben Rothwell at UFC 135 on September 24, 2011, via unanimous decision.
Mark Hunt had the fastest victory of his career at UFC 144 over Cheick Kongo on February 26, 2012. After 2:11 in the first round and few right hooks, Kongo fell on the ground. After few strikes, the referee stopped the fight.
UFC On Fuel TV 8 will be remembered forever by Mark Hunt’s spectacular left hook KO over Stefan Struve. In the collision of David and Goliath, On March 3, 2013, Hunt won in the third round. It was his second Knockout Of The Night.
Mark Hunt fought Junior dos Santos at UFC 160 on May 25, 2013. After a right spinning heel kick in the third round, Hunt went to the ground and the referee stopped the fight. Junior dos Santos won via KO. It was Mark’s first Fight Of The Night award, and the first fight in the co-main event of the evening.
The Super Samoan had the only draw in his career at UFC Fight Night 33 in his first main event of the evening against Antonio Silva, on December 7, 2013. Despite the draw, the fighters got Fight Of The Night award. Silva was later positive to testosterone, but in Hunt’s score, the fight remained a draw. It was the longest fight of Hunt’s career – it lasted five rounds.
In the second main event of the evening, at UFC Fight Night 52, on September 20, 2014, Mark Hunt knocked Roy Nelson out via spectacular right uppercut in the second round. It was Performance of The Night and the Knockout Of The Year.
Mark Hunt – UFC 180 Title Shot
Mark Hunt fought for the Heavyweight Belt against Fabricio Werdum on November 15, 2014, in Mexico City, Mexico, in the main event of the evening. Hunt dropped Werdum in the first round twice via punches, but he was defeated in the second round. Werdum landed a flying knee which sent The Super Samoan to the ground and won via TKO after a barrage of punches on the ground.
The Doctor faced Stipe Miocic at UFC Fight Night 65, on May 10, 2015, in Adelaide, Australia. Mark Hunt was defeated via TKO in the fifth round. It was his fourth main event of the evening.
The Super Samoan was very successful in the rematch against Antonio Silva at UFC 193 on November 15, 2015. After only 3:41 in the first round, Hunt ended the fight and won via TKO.
Mark Hunt demonstrated the power of his punches once again versus Frank Mir at UFC Fight Night 85, on March 20, 2016. In the fifth main event of the evening, The Super Samoan won via right hook KO in the first round. It was again The Performance Of The Night.
Hunt faced Brock Lesnar at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016. Originally, Brock Lesnar won via unanimous decision, but he was later tested positive for clomiphene, and the fight was overturned to no contest.
The Super Samoan fought Alistair Overeem at UFC 209, on March 4, 2017. Alistair Overeem pushed him against the cage and delivered a brutal right knee to the head, earning KO victory in the first round.
Mark Hunt Vs Derrick Lewis – UFC Fight Night 110 Hometown Fight
Mark Hunt faced Derrick Lewis on June 11, 2017, in his place of birth, Auckland, New Zealand. It was his sixth main event of the evening, and Hunt won the fight via TKO in the fourth round. The Super Samoan also earned Fight Of The Night bonus. The Super Samoan didn’t hide his satisfaction in the post-fight interview, while his children were next to him. He got a thunderous applause at the end of the fight.
Mark Hunt should face Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 119 but he was removed from the fight due to medical issues. However, Hunt was allowed to return to octagon in December 2017 after few medical tests.
The Super Samoan fought Curtis Blaydes at UFC 221 on February 11, 2018. Despite The Doctor sent Blaydes to the ground in the first round via overhand right, Blaydes outwrestled him in the last two rounds and won via unanimous decision.
Mark Hunt has six children, two from the first, and four from the second marriage. He is married to his second wife, Julie. Hunt is a vegetarian.
