On February 17, 2024, the biggest heavyweight boxing title match between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will finally take place. Ahead of the much-awaited showdown, Mike Tyson already has an idea about how the fight will go down.

Power might beat brilliance

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, “Iron” Mike made an early Fury vs. Usyk prediction. According to Tyson, there’s a great chance that Fury’s power will get the better of Usyk’s speed and brilliance. However, the job will be easier said than done as “little guys” like Usyk are hard to hit.

“I’m looking forward to that fight. That’s gonna be an interesting fight,” Tyson said. “I’m going towards Tyson Fury, ’cause I think he’s just gonna overpower him [Usyk]. He’ll catch up with him and overpower him. That’s what I think, I could be wrong.”

“Little guys are difficult to fight because they’re harder to hit,” he added. “Because they’re smaller, you know, he runs a lot, he moves a lot. Tyson’s probably going to have a few rounds to deal with his movements. But he’s very difficult to fight, very difficult, very smart, very fast.”

What Fury vs. Usyk means to heavyweight boxing

While Tyson is in favor of unification bouts, he also pointed out that Fury vs. Usyk will ultimately limit other heavyweight contenders’ chances of becoming a world champion.

“I’m a big believer in unifying the titles but then by having the title [unified], now we’re talking business, now by having one champion and there’s so many contenders, the contenders are not going to get opportunity to fight for the title,” Tyson explained.

“So, we have to make more than one title for everybody to get a chance to fight for the title and that’s even better for business because it’s a championship fight and everybody wants to watch championship fights,” he continued.

Fury and Usyk will fight for the undisputed heavyweight champion status, a title which was last held by Lennox Lewis. The pair already had their first face-off and they didn’t fail to ignite the fans.

As it stands, Fury holds the WBC title, while Usyk currently holds the the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts.
