- John McCarthy raved about Francis Ngannou’s performance against Tyson Fury
- “Big John” said Anthony Joshua should think before taking on “The Predator”
John McCarthy is convinced that Francis Ngannou entered a whole new realm after an impressive showing against Tyson Fury. After what happened, “Big John” thinks Anthony Joshua and his team should think twice before agreeing to face “The Predator.”
Francis has gas
Speaking on his Weighing In podcast, McCarthy raved about Ngannou’s surprising ability to last 10 full rounds against arguably the best heavyweight boxer in the world.
“I was so impressed because I thought he was getting a little tired there a couple of rounds and next round, he come out and he would be throwing and I’m like goddamn… super impressive because… man he’s going to be burning energy just, the atmosphere and who he’s fighting and it’s impossible not to [but] he had gas man. He went and I know he was tired but so was Fury and then dude, to go those 10 Rounds, just freaking remarkable,” McCarthy pointed out.
AJ should be careful
McCarthy also believes that after proving that he could take on the best heavyweights in boxing, Ngannou can now maximize all the opportunities in front of him. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn already expressed his desire to book AJ against Ngannou but “Big John” doesn’t think it would be a smart move given how the former UFC heavyweight champ performed against Fury.
“Now, Francis Ngannou, he can ride his own ticket wherever he wants. The WBC and Marcelio Sulliman, he’s already going to rank him as a top 10 heavyweight boxer, he can fight anybody he wants and he can fight for as much money [he wants]. And Eddie Hearn is already talking about wanting to put him against Joshua, and I don’t know if that’s a great fight for Joshua now that I’m looking at it,” McCarthy assessed.
It can be recalled that Ngannou knocked Fury down but still lost via split decision. Many, mostly MMA personalities, were disappointed with how the judges saw the fight as they believe “The Predator” should’ve been the winner. Understandably, Ngannou also knew he beat Fury that night.
As it stands, Ngannou is now planning to compete in both MMA and boxing. However, his PFL debut is likely to come first.
