Jake Paul is aiming for a Knockout of the Year-worthy finish of Tommy Fury when they clash inside the boxing ring this Feb. 26.
Social media influencer turned boxer Paul is coming off a bout with legendary mixed martial artist Anderson Silva last October. He scored a knockdown and managed to edge out Silva on the judges’ scorecards in a close-fought battle. Following the most impressive win of his career, Paul was looking for options and found one in a familiar rival, Tommy Fury.
Jake Paul wants to score KO of the year against Tommy Fury
In a recent interview with BT Sport, Jake Paul shared his ambitions for his upcoming boxing match with Fury.
“I’m going to knock him the f**k out,” said Paul. “I’m going for a Knockout of the Year candidate. I’ve won it once before and I want to win it again. You’re going to see his girlfriend cry if she’s ringside once I knock him thee f**k out and he’s unconscious.”
Paul theorized Fury got pressured into taking the fight for financial reasons.
“Hopefully he shows up because he’s flaky and he’s fumbling the bag. I don’t know if he really believes in himself. The money is just really good,” he said. “He’s kind of been forced into this by the fans, the media, his family, and probably Molly. Because she’s probably sitting there saying, ‘hey, we had a baby. I can’t be the one to pay the bills the entire time.’ He’s getting paid $20k a fight, minus taxes, he can only pay for so many diapers.
“It’s a hard business and so this is his biggest payday and he’s going to actually be able to support his family a little bit… But Molly was probably like, ‘yeah bro, I’m tired of being the breadwinner of this relationship.”
Paul believes Tommy is mentally weak
‘The Problem Child’ and Fury were scheduled to sit across each other for a media appearance in the build-up to their contest. However, Tommy decided to leave the arena before the appearance. Paul labeled Fury ‘mentally weak’ for skipping on the face-to-face sit-down.
“We were supposed to do face to face with Tommy. Tommy disappeared. Tommy, you’re f**king scared and soft as f**k for that.
“I’m used to it at this point with this f**king kid. I don’t think he wants to sit here and engage in these types of conversations. I think he’s mentally weak. I was looking forward to making him look like an idiot but it is what it is. At the end of the day, he has to get in the ring so that’s all that really matters.”
Jake Paul will face Tommy inside the boxing ring this Sunday, Feb. 26 in a contest billed as ‘The Truth’ at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
