Former UFC & PRIDE Veteran Wanderlei Silva Returns For Boxing Match

"The Axe Murderer" is back!

Wanderlei Silva may be done with pro MMA competition, but he’s going back to work for some boxing action.

Silva announced on his Instagram account that he is scheduled to box Brazilian bodybuilder Felipe Franco on November 25. The bout will be featured on the Attack Fight Show card.

Wanderlei Silva Gets Boxing Match This November

Perhaps Silva’s journey to the sweet science shouldn’t come across as too surprising. Last year, Wanderlei Silva appeared on “Trocação Franca” and said he was all in on having boxing matches, but he didn’t want to fight someone wh0 has no business being in the ring with him.

“I would like to fight a boxer, right?” Silva said. “I always liked to do it on their game. Even when I was training, I liked to do jiu-jitsu with jiu-jitsu guys and wrestle wrestlers. I like to test myself. I would like to box one of those good guys, maybe a former world champion, something like that. That would be interesting.”

“But I don’t want to fight an old man like our friend [Vitor Belfort] did, fighting [Evander Holyfield], who’s almost 70. It has to be someone younger, right? To fight an old man and beat them quickly is something other type of fighters do. I won’t do that. I wanna box someone good.”

Silva’s son, Thor, is also scheduled to be on the card. Time will tell how long “The Axe Murderer” can keep boxing, but he has seen fellow Brazilian legends Anders0n Silva and Jose Aldo have success inside the ring, at the very least 0n a low level.

Most fight fans know Silva for his forward pressure style and throwing caution to the wind. Whether he’ll take that fighting style with him in the ring or try to keep it technical remains to be seen.
