A Lesson in Street MMA: Practice a Proper Takedown for Nascar or Suffer a DDT

During UFC Ottawa last week, truck racing caused a mix-up in what channel the fight was going to be on. Unbeknownst to those at home, this actually caused a riff in our timeline. It’s very complicated stuff, it has to do with electrons and satellites, but somehow the MMA world has leached over into the Nascar realms. Last night, John Wes Townley and Spencer Gallagher had the warrior spirit pass through them which caused them to come to blows.

It was a heated (and awkward) encounter after wreck. It was pretty one-sided, with one of the drivers scoring a takedown early and later on some punches in the clinch, but by far the move of the night was a DDT straight on the damn asphalt. There’s no padding there, folks.

If you can’t get the takedown, you have to protect your head, especially in the stre- um, speedway. Replaying the tape, the Nascar guys did come up with some pretty efficient judging criteria for dudes who spent their time watching cars turn left. Got to hand it to the drivers too, it looks like at least one of them watched Don Frye’s fight with Yoshihiro Takayama but it takes two to pull that off.
