Michel Pereira is looking for a former title challenger in his next bout.
It has been three months since the rising welterweight star Michel Pereira last stepped foot in the Octagon. He has been on one of the best winning streaks in the welterweight division and is looking to have his shot at a tough opponent when he returns. Unfortunately, Pereira has been having trouble locking down a date and opponent with the UFC. Pereira presently caught up with The Schmo to discuss his timeline for a return and who he would like next.
Michel Pereira is looking for the perfect opportunity to move forward in his career
Pereira discussed the fact that the UFC kept offering him last minute opponents, to which he refused. He states that he would like a full camp and has some dates in mind. His friend and fellow UFC fighter Johnny Walker stood in to help translate for Pereira.
“I’m already working on some, asking for a fight but they give him a short notice fight now for October 15. But I need two months to do my camp training,” he said. “But we are negotiating for a fight soon. I want to fight in 2022 but we are negotiating a fight and they give just too short notice just 15 days so we need more time and we are negotiating what they can do for me. I want to fight now, for October or November, the beginning of November. And of course I want to fight with Johnny UFC Rio is going to be really good fun for us.”
Pereira wants to set up two fights with the UFC, he wants one before the end of the year and one in January in his home country of Brazil. This will be the first time the UFC will be holding an event in Brazil since before the pandemic and a lot of Brazilian fighters want to get on that card.
For either fight, Pereira has a big name in mind, he is looking for a bout with former title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Thompson has not fought in the UFC for a while his last bout was back in in December of 2021. Thompson has been very picky with his opponent choices and seems to be waiting for the right opportunity.
If Pereira gets his wish he will have the opportunity to continue his rose up the rankings he is currently ranked tenth but has won his last five bouts.
