  • The 30-year-old thinks he could also beat Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall is not going to waste the opportunity given to him as he vows to pull off an upset victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295.

A Bisping type of title fight win

Aspinall was called up to be the other half of the interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 295 after Jon Jones was forced to pull out due to an injury. Despite taking on a vicious knockout artist in Pavlovich in weeks notice, Aspinall is confident he could finish his opponent a la Michael Bisping when “The Count” KO’d Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.

“I think that Pavlovich is the most dangerous, to be honest,” Aspinall told The Mac Life. “I think he’s the most dangerous guy in the UFC. I think it’s f**king the most dangerous situation you could have. Fighting the most dangerous guy in the UFC on two weeks notice. But I’m willing to put it all on the line, this is my absolute dream and I’m doing a Bisping, aren’t I? Bisping did it on two weeks notice and won against Rockhold so why can’t I do it?”

Jones could have it too

UFC president Dana White said Jones would be needing a surgery and will be out for at least eight months. According to Aspinall, “Bones” will end up getting finished too when he makes his return.

“The champion’s unavailable for a year, so yeah, I’m the champ until the champ comes back, when I win. And then I’ll freaking beat the champ as well if he wants it, you know what I mean?,” Aspinall boasted. “It doesn’t really concern me, I’m not too bothered about interim belts or non-interim belts and all that s—. I’m just happy I got a fight because I’m healthy, I’m good to go.”

Aspinall is coming off a first-round TKO win over Marcin Tybura. He has a 100% finish rate under the UFC banner and hasn’t reached Round 3 throughout his pro MMA career. On the other hand, Pavlovich is coming in off a six-fight winning streak, all by way KO/TKO. He has knocked out 15 of his 18 opponents and only once in his entire pro MMA career.

Pavlovich vs. Aspinall will be the co-main event of UFC 295 as the new headliner will now be the light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira.
