Fan favorite Dustin Poirier is coming off a commanding win over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 last November. He is set to face Justin Gaethje in the company’s second-ever BMF title fight in the main event of UFC 291 this Saturday, Jul. 29 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Considering how thrilling their first outing was, there is a ton of excitement going into the rematch coupled with the BMF title being on the line.
UFC 291 will feature a clash between former champions Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira, who looks to make his 205-pound debut and get back to winning ways.
Sean Brady Favors Dustin Poirier but Wants Justin Gaethje to Win BMF Title
In an exclusive interview with James Lynch for Middle Easy, Sean Brady shared his take on the BMF fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
“I like it. F**k it. Who cares? Two of the baddest motherf**kers I think, especially in if you’re talking about divisions, they’re the two baddest guys and they already fought so they have history,” said Brady. “They had a really good fight the first time.
“Dustin came out on top. I’m leaning a little bit more towards Dustin in this one but I really like Justin and I hope Justin gets it done so it’s one and one. And then they can have a third fight. They’re so evenly matched and I think Gaethje has made a lot of improvements so it’s going to be a fun fight.”
Brady gives his UFC 291 predictions
Brady offered his predictions for two other UFC 291 fights; Jan Blachowicz vs Alex Pereira and Michael Chiesa vs Kevin Holland.
“I think Jan should win this fight if he goes out there and fights smart like how he fought Izzy. You would think that’s what he would do and Jan also has big power as well so. But Pereira has also shown he has big power and I’m sure it’s going to carry at 205 so Jan could definitely get knocked out but I’m leaning Jan in that one.”
“That’s a very interesting fight. I’ve been listening to Chiesa’s interviews all week. He sounds like he’s in a really good place, sounds like he’s healthy, and I could see him get it done. But I could also see Kevin Holland getting a knockout win. I’m leaning Chiesa on that a little bit more but Holland could definitely get it done as well.”
Inaugural BMF title holder Jorge Masvidal will be in attendance to crown the new winner of the title. There is speculation the winner could earn a title shot depending on how things go.
