The last time an open workout got invaded, it was a masked man attacking Josh Barnett to try and sabotage his attempts to prepare for the Dark Lord Ben Rothwell. Yesterday’s run-in at the UFC Fight Night 82 open workouts was a lot more adorable. In what was the highlight of the workouts for sure, Roy Nelson’s son joined in training with his dad.
They frolicked around, hit pads and also worked on some father and son ground game. Little Jax Nelson even landed some pretty good body splashes on his ol’ man in a live-action version of Hop on Pop. I don’t know if this will help him prepare for Jared Rosholt, but it sure did make the crowd’s heart melt into goo.
Everything seemed right in the world while everyone looked on all doe-eyed at the sweet, cute moment rarely seen at a media day for a cage fighting event. That was until the black clouds rolled in, lighting began to crackle and some announcer mistook Nelson’s son for a girl. Roy Nelson’s reaction is priceless and I’m pretty certain caused a swarm of locusts and perhaps cast many plagues upon this man’s household.
