No gloves? No problem.
‘Big Country’ vs. Belcher
Heavy hitters headline Gamebred Bareknuckle 6 as former UFC stars Roy Nelson and Alan Belcher battle it out in Biloxi, Mississippi.
After hitting a serious slump in his career, ‘Big Country’ bounced back in a big way when he defeated Dillon Cleckler in his Gamebred debut.
For Belcher, a former BKFC Heavyweight Champ, it’s his first MMA fight since a loss to Michael Bisping in 2013. Since then, Belcher has hit a hot streak in boxing and bare-knuckle boxing with 10 straight wins.
The 39 year-old tries to make that number 11 with a win over the fellow UFC veteran.
Round 1:
Nelson pumps out the jab, closing the distance to clinch with Belcher. Nelson looks for a takedown but Belcher defends well with his back against the cage. Nelson attempts a trip but Belcher himself finds the takedown on Nelson. On top, Belcher rains down punches. Nelson works his way back up, but is met with more strikes to the head from Belcher.
Both men separate as they engage in the striking department. Not for too long though as Nelson tries for a takedown, this time finally getting it. Belcher throws elbows from the bottom position. Nelson lands a few punches from top control. The heavyweights exchange shots right as the round ends.
CDS: 10-9 Belcher
Round 2:
About 45 seconds of working some stand-up, Nelson shoots for a takedown, managing to get Belcher down for a quick second. Belcher quickly springs back up. Belcher works his dirty boxing in the clinch, only to be taken down by Nelson right after. The toppling Nelson lands short shots on the ground.
Belcher is almost successful in getting back up to his feet, but is denied by Nelson, who is on him like glue. Nelson looks for a submission from top position. After time has passed, the referee has seen enough and resets the fight on the feet.
Nelson eats multiple kicks from Belcher. Nelson boxes Belcher up before going for yet another takedown. Nelson eventually gets Belcher down to the canvas for the rest of the round.
CDS: 10-9 Nelson
Round 3:
Nelson works the jab. Nelson pressures Belcher, only for the former BKFC Champ to counter effectively with a flurry of punches. Nelson survives the short onslaught and seeks a takedown, which he is able to secure. Belcher goes for a guillotine on Nelson that he never finds.
Belcher is kept on the ground by Nelson. Nelson tries to stay busy, landing a few strikes from this top position. Nelson looks to improve positions and manages to end the round on top.
CDS: 10-9 Nelson (total score: 29-28 Nelson)
Official result: Alan Belcher defeats Roy Nelson by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
