Look, sometimes we all like to collectively give some crap to UFC President Dana White. It’s difficult not to, I mean, he walks around red-faced, shouting obscenities and pushing his attitude that everyone’s opinions outside of his own don’t matter. That being said, Dana White is still, for the most part, one of us in that he’s a giant MMA nerd. If you need any further proof of that, look no further than Dana White sitting down in Japan with Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba.
It’s hard not to be a nerd for SAKU considering all that he accomplished. PRIDE was huge, sure, but without Kazushi Sakuraba chances are that PRIDE would have never sustained its popularity like it did and MMA might have never taken off like it did in Japan and, by proxy, the United States. Dana seems to be a bit upset about how promoters in Japan let him keep fighting in fights he didn’t belong in, but everyone else in the room finds it all pretty funny. Dana actually seems a bit out of his element due to the language barrier and how it feels like there is a room full of inside jokes swirling around his head while he sits there waiting to be let in on the joke.
It’s kind of cool seeing Dana White in a light like this, actually. The next time that Dana goes off on some crazy tirade, close your eyes, plug your ears and try to keep remembering that he’s a giant Sakuraba mark. At least try, okay?
