A featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and the Korean Zombie is taking place now (Saturday, Apr. 9, 2022) at UFC 273.
Round 1
Lots of feeling out early on. Volkanovski lands a leg kick. Volkanovski catches Zombie with a left and follows it with a body kick. Both fighters exchange in the pocket but Volkanovski comes out on top with the better shots. Zombie with some good head movement as Volkanovski attempts to jab. Volkanovski chops the leg. Both fighters eat shots but Volkanovski is the one landing a lot more. Volkanovski lands a one two which may have wobbled Zombie a bit. Volkanovski connects with a leg kick and they clinch up. Volkanovski gets Zombie down. Zombie gets up and eventually separates. Volkanovski drops Zombie and nearly sits him down again with a leg kick. That was an easy round for Volkanovski.
Round 2
Volkanovski continues with the leg kicks and is having great success. Zombie looks lost on the feet. However, he lands a big jab. But Volkanovski takes over soon enough. Zombie is stumbled with a check left hook. Zombie starts to have some success with a front kick to the head but Volkanovski eats them and continues to pressure forward. Volkanovski hurts Zombie with a right. Zombie is fighting back and lands a counter. Volkanovski clinches him and trips him. Zombie gets up but can’t separate from Volkanovski who clinches him. They separate eventually. Volkanovski continues to land big shots and trips Zombie. The fight returns to the feet. Volkanovski lands a body kick and follows it up with a jab.
Round 3
The action slows down a bit in the third round, but it’s Volkanovski in control as usual. Zombie lands an uppercut though and is showing some signs of life. Volkanovski jabs him and avoids a counter. Zombie shows some good head movement which leads Volkanovski to look for the takedown. Zombie separates but continues to get overwhelmed as Volkanovski keeps mixing things up. Volkanovski lands a short right hook. Zombie responds with a combination. Zombie lands a body shot and catches Volkanovski who is backing up. Volkanovski drops Zombie with a huge combination. Volkanovski looks to finish things off but the round comes to a close.
Round 4
Volkanovski stings Zombie again. Volkanovski lands another leg kick. Volkanovski wobbles Zombie with a huge combination and Herb Dean stops the fight soon after!
