UFC 224 is set to go down this Saturday night (May 12, 2018) at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and airs on pay-per-view (PPV) following prelims on FX and UFC Fight Pass.
UFC held its official UFC 224 weigh-in event earlier today, which saw strawweight Mackenzie Dern who badly missed weight by whopping 7 pounds for her scheduled bout against Amanda Cooper, came at 123 which is over the non-title limit for the weight class. Dern will forfeit a ten percent of her purse to Cooper by CABMMA (the Brazilian athletic commission presiding over the event) and an additional 20 percent by the UFC themselves.
Her Opponent Cooper weighed at 116 lbs, said there’s no excuse to come in over by such a huge margin, and went as far as to call Dern a “disgrace” after missed weight. Moreover, Twitter also slammed Dern on her significant infraction.
The main event headliners Amanda Nunes who wore her “Lioness” hat during ceremonial weigh-ins will put her 135-pound strap on the line against Raquel Pennington in the five-round headliner.
