UFC 221 took place Saturday night (Feb 10, 2018) at Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia, and the main card aired on PPV following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
In the main event, Yoel Romero, a long-time UFC middleweight contender brutally finishes Luke Rockhold via third-round Knockout, the win did not earn him an interim title due to missing weight at Friday’s official ceremony.
But Yoel Romero seems to have secured himself a rematch with the division’s current champion Robert Whittaker next.
The co-main event meets rising heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes, who picked up the solid victory over veteran Super Samoan, Mark Hunt.
The main card’s biggest earner was Luke Rockhold, who pocketed $30,000 for wearing Reebok. Meanwhile, Yoel Romero, he’d have earned the same, but unfortunately, he missed the weight twice on Friday and didn’t eligible to win the interim title.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a main card fight between Jake Matthews and Li Jingliang, which went the distance, Jake Matthews scores a unanimous decision win, both duos took home $50,000.
Jussier Formiga, a longtime flyweight contender, earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards thanks to a convincing win over Ben Nguyen. The win earned him $50K.
Israel Adesanya also earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus $50k in his UFC debut, defeated Rob Wilkinson via a second-round TKO.
