UFC 220 Results: Stipe Miocic Defeated Francis Ngannou To Retained The Heavyweight Title

Stipe Miocic dominates Francis Ngannou to set the heavyweight title defense record at UFC 220.

In the main event of UFC 220, Stipe Miocic attempted a record-setting third-straight defense of the UFC heavyweight title against Francis Ngannou.

Since making his UFC debut at the end of 2015, Francis Ngannou (11-1 before this fight) has taken the promotion by storm with six consecutive wins.

Francis Ngannou, a surging French-Cameroonian knockout artist, came into UFC 220 with a metric ton of hype, having just crushed his past several opponents in highlight reel fashion.

Tonight, Stipe Miocic outclasses Ngannou in the Octagon, using his experience to counter Ngannou on the feet and exhaust him on the ground, scoring a dominating decision win 50-44, 50-44, and 50-44 on the scorecards and retained his heavyweight title.

Despite several scares, however, champion and challenger survived to the second.

No doubt about the winner here. Francis Ngannou tried to agitate Miocic early but ran his gas tank down to empty in the process and then had nothing left to deal with Stipe Miocic’s superior wrestling and cardio in the four rounds that followed.

Miocic is riding a six-fight win streak. His victories have included first-round championship finishes over the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Junior dos Santos, and Alistair Overeem.
