The promotion was trying to book a Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley showdown to unify the straps for this card; however “Chaos” was unable to fight at the proposed date after having surgery on Tuesday to fix a nasal issue. Covington wanted the fight at UFC 230 on November, but UFC couldn’t hold on to a title fight for that long and went on to booked Till opposite Woodley.
As for Colby Covington, he had successful surgery today to correct a nasal issue, sources say, and will be ready to return in November. More coming on Woodley vs. Till at UFC 228 to @espn shortly.

Rising star Till (17-0-1) is coming off the biggest win of his career, a controversial unanimous decision over Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 130 main event back in May. To remind you, Till missed weight by three pounds for his showdown against Thompson, marking the second time in his last four fights that he was unable to make the welterweight limit.
Woodley hasn’t competed since a July 2017 title defense showdown against Demian Maia, where he won by decision. Before that he defended the title twice against Stephen Thompson; currently, he is recovering from shoulder surgery.
UFC 228 is set to take place at American Airlines Center in Dallas on September 8.
