  • Tony Ferguson lost to Michael Chandler in devastating fashion at UFC 274
  • Ferguson was transported to the hospital following his loss and has been let go now

This past Saturday, Tony Ferguson took on Michael Chandler in a high-stakes contest. Both men looked to get their names back in the mix of title contention as they reach the latter part of their careers. In what turned out to be a short-lived thriller, Chandler made a statement with his win.

Tony Ferguson gets KO’d for the first time

When you talk about a guy who stands out as one of the toughest in a group of tough guys, there’s no better man that comes to mind than former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. ‘El Cucuy’ developed a reputation for being a nightmare matchup against anyone in the division. He cleared past every opponent to accumulate an impressive 12-fight win streak.

Even in the rounds he seemed to be losing, Ferguson never looked out of the fight. That all came crashing down onto him at UFC 274.

‘El Cucuy’ was looking good going into the second round after outscoring Chandler in the first. With a few jabs to gauge the distance between the two, Chandler shocked the world when he hit Ferguson with a violent front kick to the face that sent him crashing down to the canvas.

Having only a single TKO loss on his record to Justin Gaethje, his loss at UFC 274 marks the first proper knockout loss of Ferguson’s career.

Ferguson released from hospital with negative CT scans

After suffering such a massive blow right to the face, worries for Ferguson’s health were high. With all due credit to his toughness, the 38-year-old fighter has taken some brutal punishment in his recent outings, especially the one against Gaethje. He hasn’t looked the same since that loss in May 2020.

During the post-fight press conference at UFC 274, the officials announced that Ferguson was released from the hospital. They also reported that his CT (computed tomography) scans were negative. CT scans are used to detect any immediate brain damage and it comes as a relief that his results were negative following the vicious KO.

It’s unclear if Ferguson suffered any other damage or has any long-term effects following the knockout loss.
