Tom Aspinall has already grown tired of the idea of waiting for Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic.
Aspinall captured the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship when he knocked out Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event of UFC 295. Aspinall received the opportunity after main heavyweight titleholder Jones was forced out of a planned title defense against Miocic.
While UFC CEO Dana White has insisted that Jones vs. Miocic will get rebooked, Aspinall isn’t a fan of that plan and the wait time he’d have to endure.
Tom Aspinall Slams Idea Of Jones vs. Miocic Rebooking
UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping recently posted a video interview with Tom Aspinall, who shared his belief that Jon Jones should no longer be recognized as the UFC heavyweight champion following his torn pectoral tendon.
“I think Jon Jones should be stripped of the title, to be honest,” Aspinall said. “Everyone does when they get injured like that. I think I should be the real champion right now. It’s hard to say without sounding rude, but who’s asked about Jon Jones and Stipe anymore? Why do we get this legacy fight and they get to live by their own rules. What’s a legacy fight? What’s a retirement fight for a title? I would fight Stipe and then wanna fight Jon Jones is what I wanna do to answer your question. I think all this other stuff is a lot of rubbish. Stop protecting him, now. Stop protecting your boy at the top there, Jon Jones. If he’s injured, get out of the way, I’ll fight Stipe.”
Tom Aspinall Sparred With Tyson Fury
Aspinall’s father Andy was also a part of the interview, and he recalled getting in touch with Peter Fury to set his son up for sparring sessions with Tyson Fury.
“At the time, Tyson was gonna fight Klitschko,” Andy said. “So, Peter said, ‘Bring him down and we’ll see if he’s alright.’ So, Tom did a few rounds with Tyson that day along with, he had about four sparring partners, and Peter watched Tom spar and said, ‘Yeah, he’s good.'”
