Former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson believes Alex Pereira’s striking power poses a true threat to Jiri Prochazka.
On November 11, Pereira and Prochazka will collide for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. The title fight will serve as the co-main event of UFC 295. Both men are former UFC champions, with Pereira being a former middleweight titleholder, and Prochazka once holding the light heavyweight gold before vacating it due to injury.
This one is certainly a highly-anticipated title fight that is sure to deliver fireworks. Many believe that either man can score a knockout victory, but Thomson feels Pereira is one of the best, if not, the best striker Prochazka has faced.
Josh Thomson On Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka
During an episode of the “WEIGHING IN” podcast, Josh Thomson explained what Prochazka has to watch out for when he attempts to become a two-time UFC light heavyweight titleholder.
“What I feel like is gonna make this fight is that Alex Pereira probably hits harder than anything that Jiri’s been hit with,” Thomson said. “It’s gonna be right up there at the top. I’d say probably top two, three fighters he’s ever fought.”
Co-host “Big” John McCarthy pointed out that Prochazka can take a shot and keep on moving forward. Thomson had the following to say in response.
“He’s got a great chin, I do agree with you,” Thomson responded. “He’s got a good chin, but just based off of how sneaky and how good and how he hits his left hand and all these left hooks, Alex is not a kickboxer or a fighter that he’s ever really fought. If he cracks him with a right, hides it behind a kick, whatever it is he does, I just think he’s got enough to stop Jiri.”
