- Robert Whittaker is excited to see how fans would react if Belal Muhammad becomes the new welterweight champion
- “The Reaper” admires Jiri Prochazka but he thinks they would be “enemies” once he moves to middleweight
Robert Whittaker fancies seeing Belal Muhammad winning the welterweight title but not Jiri Prochazka coming down to the middleweight division.
Belal would make MMA fans go nuts
Speaking on his MMArcade podcast, “The Reaper” shared his take on the recently-announced UFC 304 event which will take place in Manchester. For Whittaker, it would be nice to see Muhammad finally get his title shot against Leon Edwards and even beat the champ.
Whittaker thinks “Remember The Name” winning the welterweight title would leave people buzzing and debating and he can’t wait to see that happen.
“The more people hate on him [Muhammad], the more I like him, mate,” Whittaker said. “It’s just bringing me to his side, I love it, I love it. It’s a fight I wanna see. I wanna see Belal with the belt wrapped around him, wouldn’t that upset a lot of people. Like, the uproar would be fantastic. Not to say I want Leon to lose, because I like Leon Edwards very much. I’m just saying, it’d be a funny dynamic.”
Jiri shouldn’t come to 185
Whittaker also commented on Prochazka’s hint at dropping down to 185 pounds. According to the former middleweight champion, he is a fan of “BJP” and he doesn’t want them to be “enemies.” However, Whittaker said Prochazka would leave him with no choice but to consider him a foe once he joins to the middleweight division.
“I hope he doesn’t. I really hope he doesn’t,” Whittaker said of Prochazka’s potential move to 185. “I like the guy a lot. But if he enters the middleweight division, then we’re enemies. That’s just the nature of the game. They’re all enemies except for my teammates.”
“I can’t see him at 84 (kg). I’ve seen him in real life. I’ve been up close to him and he’s big. It’s not just like he’s physical, he’s got a big frame, he’s got wide shoulders, he’s quite tall. He’s a big, big guy. I think he has the mentality to get to 84 kilos, don’t get me wrong. The dude’s borderline psychiatric, man. If he wants to get to 84, he’ll do it. Whether or not it would be a good move, it’s hard to say. He’s still smashing it at light heavy,” he continued.
Edwards’ team is certain they will face Muhammad at UFC 304. On the other hand, Prochazka has expressed his desire to rematch Alex Pereira despite teasing at a move to middleweight.
