Thiago Silva says he thinks Brandon Vera can’t fight him because he broke a nail

It’s been over a year since UFC 125 when the drama between Thiago Silva and Brandon Vera went down inside and outside of the octagon. If you don’t remember there was plenty of smack talk leading up to this fight and Silva ended up doing some serious redecoarting of Brandon Vera’s face by breaking his nose and earning the unanimous decision win.

After the fight though, Silva’s urine sample was shown to have been tampered with and Thiago admitted to being injected with ‘banned substances’ in order to continue fighting through a back injury. This discovery caused the decision to be overturned and caused Silva’s license to fight to be revoked. It also caused plenty of speculation from the Vera camp and fans alike, as to whether those ‘banned substances’ turned Silva into a superhuman unstoppable Brandon Vera beating machine at UFC 125.

All of the questions and smack talk between the camps made it an absolute must that these two have a rematch once Silva’s suspension was over. That fight was scheduled for UFC on Fuel 3 on May 15th as the headliner but unfortunately Brandon Vera had to pull out of the fight due to an injury. Thiago will now make his octagon return facing Alexander Gustafsson. Silva is happy to be fighting still, but according to a recent interview he really wanted to fight Brandon Vera again.

“For me there is not much to change, but I actually wanted to get Brandon Vera because he talked a lot of nonsense. He took a beating like a little girl and was crying afterwards. I think [this time] he broke a nail, so he couldn’t fight. They offered the Croation [Prokrajac], then Nogueira was hurt — I don’t choose my opponents, so I accepted the fight with Gustafsson. I’m happy to be in the main fight of the night, and I will show why I should be there.”

If Brandon Vera did pull out of the fight due to a broken nail that’s just plain crazy. Zeus sliced half of his finger off last night with a Ginsu knife during what I can only assume was an attempt to learn the art of Hibachi grill cooking to impress one of the model chicks he lives next door to and still managed to email the MiddleEasy crew. He did so one handed and even offered to take pictures of the Mt Vesuvious of blood he had erupting from the tip of his severed finger. If Zeus can do the one handed keyboard warrior with a severed blood gushing finger then darn it, Brandon Vera can fight with a broken nail. Vera pulled out of the Silva fight just two days after the official announcement and as of yet his injury has not been disclosed. [source]
