Francis Ngannou hasn’t moved past a potential super-fight with Jon Jones.
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion has been pitted against the legendary ‘Bones’ for quite some time now, with many wanting to see the heavyweight matchup take place.
However, talks of the title fight have died down some as Ngannou has left the UFC to get into the boxing ring with Tyson Fury in a million-dollar affair. On top of that, Ngannou also signed an MMA contract with the PFL earlier this year.
So, You’re Telling Me There’s A Chance?
While there’s a good possibility that we’ll never ‘The Predator’ compete in the Octagon again, Ngannou isn’t ruling out the idea of a UFC comeback.
“It’s possible, but they have to go to the PFL now,” Ngannou said on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. “The PFL is down for that [fight].”
Ngannou: The Jon Jones Fight Is ‘Bigger Than A Title’
Of course, we all know how UFC CEO Dana White feels about a (not-so-potential) cross-promotion with the PFL… it’s not his thing. But, perhaps the magnitude behind Ngannou vs. Jones could set a precedent for crossover super-fights.
How would that work, exactly? Belt or no belt, Ngannou has some insight on the matter.
“I don’t know. Maybe he’ll be a special fight, a special belt or something?” Ngannou said regarding a potential fight with Jones. “Maybe not like a UFC belt. To be honest, I don’t worry about the title. The title is not what I worry about.
“I worry about that fight, that challenge. I wouldn’t care if it was a fight without a title. In my [mind], I don’t need a UFC title. That fight is bigger than a title. The fight is bigger than a title.”
‘I Still Have A Little Bit Of Hope’
Francis Ngannou, who is set for a big payday against Tyson Fury, remains optimistic about a monumental fight with Jon Jones.
“Deep inside me, I still have a little bit of hope, even though I know it’s gonna be hard. But, you never know.”
