Will Nick Diaz fight again? Well, Jake Shields hopes so.

Shields, a teammate and friend of Diaz, isn’t too sure if the UFC superstar will ever come back. Diaz last fought at UFC 266, where he would call it quits against Robbie Lawler in round 3. The grounded Diaz would refuse to get up and referee Herb Dean put a stop to the fight, declaring Lawler the winner by TKO.

Shields Wants Diaz To Do A Proper Camp

Months after the devastating defeat, Diaz may be gearing up for another go in 2022. At least that’s what his coach Cesar Gracie said anyways. Being a part of team Diaz, Shields would also give his thoughts on whether or not the UFC veteran will return to action.

“I don’t know,” Shields told Joe Rogan, when asked about if Diaz was fighting again. “For his last fight, obviously he wasn’t in the best situation, mentally and stuff. I would like to see him fight again, but I’d like to see him do a proper camp. I think he wants to, but I really hope he does a proper camp and does it right.”

Shields Regrets Letting Diaz Fight At UFC 266

Shields would reveal that the elder Diaz brother didn’t have much of a training camp for his last fight. He believes they should have pushed the fight back, instead of having the show go on in September.

“Not much,” Shields said of Diaz’s training for Lawler. “I think he was just going through some tough times in his life. I don’t wanna get into his personal life too much, but I think he was going through a tough time. I would’ve liked to have pulled the fight and moved it back, personally.”

“A lot of it was his motivation. He was kind of like pushed into— the fight happened so quick and he hadn’t been training at all. Then all of a sudden he is like fighting in two months. It was just kind of rushed. He didn’t have a chance to do a camp.”

While Shields regrets not pulling the plug on Diaz’s return, he hopes to see him do a proper do-over.

“Nick’s like a brother. I really hope he fights again, but he needs to make sure to properly do a camp.
