Shavkat Rakhmonov takes a look at the title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman.

The UFC welterweight division is heating up. With a title fight on the horizon, all eyes are on the champion and the challenger. Newly crowned champion Leon Edwards will be taking on former champion Kamaru Usman in an immediate rematch in London on March 18. This fight has it all, drama, skilled fighters, and a history between these two. Edwards and Usman have faced each other twice before, each winning once. Now, this third bout will settle the score and see who will move on as a champion of the division.

Whoever winds up winning will have a tough road going forward. The UFC 170-pound division is full of talented fighters all looking for their opportunity to fight for the belt. One man who has been making a name for himself is Shavkat Rakhmonov. He is currently undefeated and will be keeping a close eye on the title fight in March.

Shavkat Rakhmonov thinks Leon Edwards will need to make adjustments in this trilogy fight

Rakhmonov came to the UFC back in 2020, and since then he has won four in a row. His last win was over Neil Magny which rocketed him to number ten in the rankings. After breaking the top ten, he could be on the fast track to a title shot. With a special interest in the bout at UFC 286 in London, Rakhmonov spoke to Sportskeeda about how he sees it going.

“I believe Kamaru is a favorite and this one according to the last fight, you know, he was winning the majority of this fight,” he said though translation. “And it’s really gonna depend on Leon if he’s going to defend takedowns better this time. If not, then I think Kumaru is going to win.”

Rakhmonov has a big fight coming up for himself. He will be taking on number seven-ranked Geoff Neal at UFC 285 on March 4. If he can pull out the win and continue his undefeated streak perhaps his name can be added to the conversation of who will face the winner of Edwards vs. Usman.
