Robert Whittaker Says ‘Last Stylebender’ Showed Heart In Torrid Fight, But He’s ‘Hittable’

Israel Adesanya captured the interim middleweight title this past Saturday after defeating Kelvin Gastelum in an epic five-round war at UFC 236. The MMA world is heaping praise on co-main event showdown even UFC president Dana White sang the praises of “Last Stylebender.’

Division’s champion Robert Whittaker also impressed by Adesanya’s performance but that doesn’t mean he’s low in confidence to retain his title.

Adesanya ate some damage early in the fight, but he turned the tables later and beat Gastelum. That win set him up a massive title unification bout against Whittaker this fall in Australia.

Whittaker took to social media and congratulated Adesanya after the fight and eager to face him August. (h/t Newshub)

“He showed a lot of heart. He got hit a little bit and came back,” said Whittaker.

“He was very accurate, with high volume. It was a very impressive win.

Whittaker said Adesanya’s performance showed some weakness which he could exploit in their title unification bout.

“He’s hittable. I’m better at striking [than Gastelum]. I’m going to punch him and I am very, very good at it, very fast and hit hard and he doesn’t like getting hit.”
