Jackson's boxing debut could come sooner rather than later.

Move over, Darril Schoonover. There’s somebody else who’s in the running to fight ‘Rampage’.

Next Fight

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson has made it clear that he intends on fighting again this year. The 45 year-old hasn’t fought since 2019, where he was TKO’ed by MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko under the Bellator banner.

Just days ago, Rampage originally revealed that he was going to face his TUF 10 rival Schoonover at a UFL event in December. However, it looks like those plans may change as the ex-champ is apparently in talks about facing another opponent, one that he also has a history with.

“If I have a training camp, I might fight Shannon Briggs in December in Florida,” Jackson said on The Jaxxon Podcast.

The Lead-Up

Jackson confirmed that the potential fight would take place in boxing, not in MMA. This would be Jackson’s boxing debut. While he doesn’t have any experience in the ring, ‘Rampage’ had a historic career inside the cage with a record of 37-14 with 17 wins coming by way of knockout.

On the other hand, Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs is no stranger to the world of boxing. Briggs is a former two-time heavyweight champion, holding the lineal title in 1997-1998 and the WBO title in 2006-2007. Briggs hasn’t fought since 2016.

The boxing contest between Briggs and Jackson has been heating up for some time now, with the two fighters being involved in a couple of altercations back in 2021. The grudge match is all but official, but ‘Rampage’ is already making way for preparations.

“Not yet,” Jackson said, when asked if he had a training camp set up. “I got my coach coming from England. I’m gonna need some sparring partners. [Briggs] is a big guy. You know how big that guy is? He’s 300lbs now. He’s outta shape.

“I think he’s gonna underestimate me cause I never had a boxing match before,” Jackson said of Briggs. “I think that’s what he’s doing.”
