Khamzat Chimaev is making claims that he is unable to find an opponent who will face him, Paulo Costa and Belal Muhammad are not convinced.
Khamzat Chimaev is in a strange position right now within the UFC. He has worked his way up over the last two years to become one of the top welterweights in the division. It seemed as if he was on the fast track to a title shot until his fight at UFC 279. At that event, Chimaev missed weight and his bout against Nate Diaz was called off, instead he faced Kevin Holland at a catchweight and is now focused on two different weight classes. Chimaev is calling for a title shot at middleweight but his requests seem unheard. He now claims that no fighter will accept an offer to face him.
Khamzat Chimaev’s statements are not being taken seriously by his fellow fighters Paulo Costa and Belal Muhammad
Chimaev took to his YouTube channel to air some of his concerns. He spoke about his desire to fight and how he called out middleweight champion Alex Pereira. He said he has been turned down four times by different fighters. He accused fighters of saying they will face him on social media but then turning the fights down when the contract is sent.
“Nobody wants to fight,” he said. “F–k these boys. They gave me four different countries, four different opponents, nobody want to fight. I just wanna fight, give me somebody. If the guys run away from me, just give me somebody. I’m ready.”
MMA media outlet MMA Junkie took this quote and posted it on their social media platforms. The image drew a strong response from some of the top fighters at middleweight and welterweight, the two divisions that Chimaev is looking to compete in. Paulo Costa and Belal Muhammad called Chimaev’s claims into question in the Instagram post comment section.
“The four opponents that said no were Nick Diaz, Tony Ferguson, Brett Hart, and Chris Leben,” Muhammad wrote.
“Does anyone still believe these bulls-its?” Costa wrote. “Gourmet.”
Costa has been having some trouble as well, coming to an agreement on his next fight. It seems as if he has been wanting out of his contract and has only one fight left. He recently turned down a fight with Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 in Perth and mentioned turning down a multi-fight contract.
