Paul Craig is looking for a quick turnaround after his fight in Brazil, and he has an opponent in mind.
UFC light heavyweight Paul Craig is looking to stay busy this year. He ended 2022 on a loss and is looking to make up for that in a big way. Craig already has his fist bout of the year laid out in front of him, but it is not stopping him from looking to the future. He wants a spot on the upcoming London card in March and already has a name picked out for that event.
Before anything else can happen Craig must first get past Johnny Walker on Jan. 21 in Brazil. If that fight goes his way, he would like to offer a bout to Anthony Smith in London.
“I would love to fight again in Glasgow because it’s unfinished business there but after this fight, maybe a few months, so it’s like I’ve got off all of February, and then 18 days in March, I can definitely take that and I’m already in a camp,” he saidin an interview with Michael Bisping. “So potentially could be Anthony Smith in London, that would be a pretty good fight in London.”
Craig is from Scotland and has been wanting the UFC to return to Glasgow for an event for the first time since 2017 but so far nothing is on the books. His next best option would be fighting in London.
Paul Craig wants to have a tough challenge and fun fight with Anthony Smith
Right now, Craig is ranked number nine in the light heavyweight division. His last fight against Volkan Oezdemir ended in a loss but prior to that, he had won four in a row. He is targeting Smith who is currently ranked sixth in the division. He believes that the ground skills of both men up against each other will make for a very exciting fight.
“I think it’s a fun fight,” he said. “I think jiu-jitsu guys, two high level jiu-jitsu guys can still meet each other and its just a rock em’ sock em’ robots fight. I think that’s how it’s gonna go. And I’m always looking for a challenge.”
All these plans depend on the outcome of his UFC 283 bout against Walker. Coming into the fight, Walker is fresh off a win over Ion Cuțelaba. That bout will be featured in the main card of that Brazil event.
