Anthony Smith is still angry about losing his March opponent Jamahal Hill who will fight Glover Teixeira in Brazil for the title.

UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has been on the wrong side of fights lately. He has had some bad luck with his health, his personal life, and with fight bookings. Recently the hits just keep on coming. Smith was slated to face Jamahal Hill in the main event of the March 11 event to be held in Las Vegas but instead, Hill will now face Glover Teixeira for the light heavyweight title in January in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The worst part was that when the fight was announced, Smith was doing his on-air desk job for the UFC and learned of his fate live on air. He spoke bout this while a guest on The MMA Hour.

“Jake came in my ear might not even, maybe three seconds before it came out of her mouth. He said just so you know, credit to Jake for trying to do his best to give me the best heads up he could but it was as fast as they could get it to me. You know Jake popped in and said, Hey, heads up, they’re gonna announce Jamahal Hill vs. Glover for the title. And I was like, and then she said it and I was like God damn it.”

Smith admitted that he was still angry about the lack of heads up and the fact that he lost his next opponent after such a rough go of late. He explained that after breaking his leg, dealing with a staph infection, and losing his mother, he finally thought his luck was turning around with the Hill bout but again that was taken from him.

Anthony Smith is willing to show up in Brazil as a backup for the title fight

Smith is mad at the situation but holds no grudges against the people involved. He is even willing to be on hand as a backup should they need one at UFC 283 in Brazil.

“There has been some talks about potentially being the backup in Brazil,” he said. “Yeah, if they give me the official offer and actually ask like, will you be the backup in Brazil? Yeah, for sure. I would just train continued because I’d be training right now for a March fight anyways. So you know, we would pick it up a little bit until you know, we get close to the January date.”

Smith will still fight in the March 11 card if his services are not needed in Brazil. He mentioned that the UFC is searching for a replacement for Hill but nothing has been announced just yet.
