Brian Ortega Returns to take on Chan Sung Jung

T-City is back. The return of Brian Ortega was announced by the UFC through their social media outlets. Ortega will be taking on Chan Sung Jung, better known as the Korean Zombie to fight fans around the world. Scheduled to take place in Busan, South Korea, the pair are expected to headline the event.

Fans have been wondering when Ortega would return back to the octagon. After suffering a defeat against featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 231, Ortega has been relatively quiet, evading headlines. Now, almost a year later, Ortega is set to make his octagon return.

Returning Against Zombie Won’t Be Easy

Facing the Korean Zombie is the furthest from a tune-up fight that a fighter could imagine. Especially because Jung will have all of South Korea in his corner. But, it was inevitable for the pair to face each other. Especially because they’ve actually wanted to fight each other for a while now.

Both Ortega and Zombie have expressed their interests in fighting each other on Instagram.

Having the pair headline in South Korea should further the UFC’s efforts to engrain themselves in the fabric of the Asian markets.

Ortega vs Zombie Breakdown

As mentioned above, Ortega is coming off of a loss against Max Holloway. But, before that, Ortega had an undefeated record of 14-0. His accolades in the octagon include knocking out Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 and subbing both Cub Swanson and Renato Moicano with guillotine chokes. It’s important to note the skillset of Ortega as a very dangerous featherweight for everyone in the division, especially given his size and strength.

Chan Sung Jung, on the other hand, is coming off of a win against Miocano in his own right. His TKO against Moicano came within a minute of the first round and earned him a performance of the night honor. Zombie is known for his aggressive fight style, which poses problems for all adversaries that can’t “take the heat.”

UFC Busan’s fight card is far from being complete. The event will mark the UFC’s first time ever in Busan and only the second time ever in Korea.

So far, the confirmed matchups are as followed:

Light Heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir vs. Aleksandar Rakić
Flyweight Alexandre Pantoja vs. Matt Schnell

UFC Busan takes place on December 21st and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
