Neil Magny is making moves in the UFC welterweight division.

When it comes to the history of UFC fighters many come and go. The great ones will live on forever in the form of their records and their wins. Neil Magny is now the proud owner of one of those impressive records. He now holds the most win in the welterweight division, a record he took off of legend Georges St-Pierre. Magny who came to the UFC back in 2013 now has 20 wins at 170 pounds. So far in his run in the organization, the title shot has been just out of reach but is still the ultimate goal along with providing for his family. Breaking this record was just the icing on top.

“To go out there and get that record ahead of GSP for the most wins in my division, it definitely means a lot to me, because I know the sacrifices that put in there,” he said in an exclusive interview with MiddleEasy. “It’s rewarding to see that those sacrifices aren’t going unnoticed in the sense that, that’s 20 opportunities for me to go out there and earn for my family and I did that. And I was able to secure a future for them long after fighting is over. So whether or not I get the recognition from the media and my peers, for setting that record, I know what that record does  for my family moving forward and I’m grateful for that.”

Neil Magny has his sights set on his next fight and has an opponent in mind

Magny has been calling for a fight with Gilbert Burns. He was willing to fight him on January 21 in Brazil as Burns has expressed that the UFC wants him on that card. Originally Burns was looking to be matched up with Jorge Masvidal for that event but the fight is not going to happen. Now Magny wants to step in and sign the contract.

“Oh, surprise, you’re not getting your Masvidal fight. Ha. Like, I could have told you that three weeks ago when I called you out that you were getting that fight,” he said. “At the end of the day, if he’s able to leverage himself to a fight with Masvidal, and it turned out to be a huge payday for him, absolutely, go for it and take that but the end of the day, you’re gonna make a bulk of your living by fighting, not sitting back and waiting for these perfect opportunities. So the fact that he didn’t get this Masvidal fight or is not getting it and he said if at that point it fell through I was gonna get out there, hopefully, I get a contract this week for January 21 to fight Gilbert Burns.”

Magny won his last fight over Daniel Rodriguez just over two weeks ago. The win lifted him to number 13 in the rankings. Burns is number five and a win over him would be a great jumping-off point to the title shot that is the ultimate goal for the 35-year-old Magny.
