Coming off a close-fought win over Li Jingliang in his last outing in Sep. at UFC 279, Daniel Rodriguez took on grizzled veteran Neil Magny in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 64 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC Vegas 64: Neil Magny vs. Daniel Rodriguez
Round 1
Magny throws a kick down the middle. Hard left from D-Rod pushes Magny back. Magny tries to clinch but they separate. Low kick by Rodriguez. Another left to the body by Rodriguez. Another body shot by D-Rod. Magny connects with a big shot. Rodriguez grapples and they get in a clinch briefly. Low kick by D-Rod. They get in clinch again. D-Rod breaks away. Magny hits a straight right. Rodriguez knocks Magny’s mouthguard out. Rodriguez goes in with a combination and they get in a clinch. Magny was trying an arm triangle but gets his back and takes him down. Magny still has his back as Rodriguez gets up against the cage. Magny posing a threat from the top position. Magny throws a big elbow to break the clinch.
Round 2
Magny starts off firing. He catches Rodriguez with a head kick. Rodriguez goes to the body. Outside low kick by Magny and Rodriguez fires one right back. Power left from Rodriguez to the body. Strong double left to the body and head of Magny. Another one by Rodriguez. Magny lands a 3 punch combination and goes to clinch. He connects with a few more shots while breaking away from the clinch. Magny throws a kick down the middle. Magny blitzes in with a good combination. Rodriguez pushes him away. Rodriguez goes to grapple. They separate and trade strikes again. Big left from Rodriguez lands. Magny goes to grapple and gets his back to close the round.
Round 3
Big straight left from Rodriguez to open the round. They get to action straight away. Huge left from Rodriguez hurts Magny. Magny goes down and gets him in guard. They get back to the feet. Magny goes for the takedown and takes him to the cage. He gets Rodriguez down and has his back. Magny laying down the ground and pound. He gets his back and gets another takedown. Magny lets him loose and jumps on the choke. He got a d’arce choke locked in and Rodriguez taps.
Official Result: Neil Magny defeats Daniel Rodriguez via d’arce choke submission (R3, 3:33).
