Miesha Tate is intrigued by potentially fighting Holly Holm in a rematch at UFC 300.

On Saturday, December 2, Tate ended a two-fight losing streak with a dominant third-round submission win against Julia Avila at UFC Austin. Now that ‘Cupcake’ has silenced the doubters, the MMA community has already begun thinking about what could be next for the former UFC champion.

In March 2016, Tate fought Holly Holm at UFC 196 for the women’s bantamweight title. Holm had her moments in the fight, but ‘Cupcake’ ultimately emerged victorious with a thrilling fifth-round submission to become the new champion.

Seven years later, a rematch between Tate and Holm has gained interest among fans for UFC 300, which is expected to take place in April 2024.

During an interview on The MMA Hour, Tate was asked by Ariel Helwani about potentially fighting Holm at UFC 300. ‘Cupcake’ responded by saying:

“I think it’s a great time [to fight Holly Holm again]…I think [April] sounds reasonable. I did get a little bit of an injury leaving that fight [against Julia Avila], so I’ve got to get an MRI and check myself out and just make sure. If it’s not very severe, which I’ve been walking around, and I think I’m actually alright, I think I’ll be ok. So, if I can do that, I think Holly would be a fantastic one.”

Miesha Tate wants to rewrite the narrative from her first fight with Holly Holm

Miesha Tate’s 2016 win against Holly Holm was widely considered an unexpected comeback. Yet, Tate believes the fight was closer than most fans remember, further motivating her to challenge Holm for a second time.

Tate had this to say during the previously mentioned interview on The MMA Hour:

“That’s another one that it actually bothers me because people still think for some reason that I was just getting my a*s kicked in that fight [against Holly Holm]…I think she was actually edging me on the feet, I’ll give her that. She was edging me on the feet. I absolutely smashed her on the ground. So, yeah, to answer your question, Ariel, I think it would be fun to run that one back and write the story a little better.”

Holly Holm last fought on July 15, losing a number one contender matchup against Mayra Bueno Silva by second-round submission. The result was later changed to a no-contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to Bueno Silva failing a drug test.

As a result, Holm dropped to the number five ranking in the UFC women’s bantamweight division, while Miesha Tate recently jumped to number eleven.

Only time will tell if the UFC decides to book the rematch between Holm and Tate for UFC 300.
