- Max Holloway thinks most fans want to see UFC 300 because of his BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje
- “Blessed” is expecting to see a different “Highlight” at UFC 300
Max Holloway is confident that many would consider his BMF title fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 as the main event and he’s excited to see what “The Highlight” would pull off in their showdown.
It just happened
Speaking to MMA Fighting, “Blessed” said he first expressed his desire to fight for the BMF title in October and now he is also surprised that it is really happening. Like most people, Holloway also expected Gaethje to face either Charles Oliveira or Islam Makhachev. However, things took a wild turn and now he and “The Highlight” will fight for the BMF belt.
“It just kind of happened I guess you know I kind of said that in October… With him having the BMF I was like you know why not? Why wait around? Let’s go! Let’s get in here mix it up and we get a paycheck for both of us and make a fight that no one can forget,” Holloway said.
“If that’s not the definition of a BMF then I don’t know what it is. At the end of the day somebody who who has a BMF belt, there’s only a few that come to mind and then a few that actually live up to it you know and Justin Gaethje is it,” he continued.
“I was just as surprised as that too because I thought they would have went the title fight that way too but they didn’t they made that Charles’s fight the number one contender which is kind of mind-blowing and the end of the day but you know we see what happens. We’re here I’m happy you know and I get to fight a true BMF in Justin Gaethje so I’m excited,” he added.
Gaethje vs. Holloway is already a main event
The UFC has yet to announce the main event of UFC 300. However, Holloway is convinced that people already look at his BNF title fight with Gaethje as the headliner for the event.
“I know they still trying to find a main event at the end of the day but once they announced my Justin fight, it’s like a lot of people’s tones started changing against [UFC] 300. They started getting super like you know just focused on it now,” Holloway said.
“Most of the time our fights is people’s main event because they know what they get and you see when you see us on the card they know what you’re going to get your bang for your buck and know I just can’t wait to go out there and give the fans a treat,” he raved.
Max expects a different fight
Gaethje has been known in the UFC for being a brawler and a knockout artist. Based on Holloway’s assessment, Gaethje might not brawl with him right away as he did in his latest fight. As for his gameplan, “Blessed” said he doesn’t want to elaborate at this point but people could expect a different style from him.
“It’s going to be different you know and I don’t want to talk too much about it but it’s going to be different and you guys get to see April 13 why it’s going to be different,” Holloway teased.
“I think so he is taking a step back in his brawling, in his brawling ways. That fight over in London, he really used his jabs a lot. He looked real good picking his shots a little bit more so we’ll see what happens… Everybody got a plan until we go in there, we get punched in the face,” he added.
As it stands, Gaethje holds the BMF title after knocking out Dustin Poirier at UFC 291. On the other hand, Holloway is making a temporary move to lightweight to try and dethrone Gaethje at the much-awaited UFC 300. He is coming off back-to-back wins as a featherweight.
