Islam Makhachev has some uncertainty when it comes to the return of Conor McGregor.
The former two-division champion is coaching the next season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ against no other than Michael Chandler, who is supposed to be his opponent after the reality show wraps up. However, a fight between the two stars has yet to be lined up for an event, with many questioning if McGregor will even face Chandler after all.
‘I Don’t Think Conor Wants To Fight With Him’
Makhachev is one of those skeptics, not sure if the Irishman is up for the task against ‘Iron’.
“I don’t know. They try to make the fight, but it’s not official now,” Makhachev said on ‘Weighing In’. “No, I don’t think Conor wants to fight with him, cause he’s drinking too much, smoking all day and he just can’t.”
Makhachev Can’t Recall The Last Time McGregor Fought
We haven’t seen McGregor fight since 2021, where he suffered a brutal leg break against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, it’s been a long road to recovery and Makhachev has been forgetful of what happened to ‘The Notorious’.
“TUF makes some interesting thing, cause everybody forget him. I don’t know when he fight last time,” Makhachev added. “But if they fight I think it’s gonna be 170. Maybe if you [are] Chandler, they gonna try to push him, make 155 [fight]. And I know they want to give [McGregor] title choice.”
Makhachev Interested In Fighting Winner Of McGregor vs. Chandler
While the lightweight champ has his doubts when it comes to McGregor fighting Chandler, he is open to taking on the Irish superstar, especially because of the money that comes along with it.
“Why not?” Makhachev said with a laugh. “Some fighter have to be stupid for say not. It’s 100% big money fights. Now everybody know he’s not in shape.
“Ass beating, make money, be happy.”
