Laura Sanko continues to train in MMA even today.
While the 39-year-old is a successful interviewer, commentator and analyst for the UFC, she was also a former pro MMA fighter.
She went 4-1 in her amateur career before competing just once professionally when she submitted Cassie Robb with a rear naked choke at Invicta FC 4 back in January 2013.
But despite her newfound success on the mic as well as the desk, Sanko continues to train in MMA.
Laura Sanko Reveals Sparring Injuries
That was even more evident when she posted a recent video showcasing her injuries from a recent sparring session.
Sanko has bruises around both her eyes before cracking a joke:
“You should see the other guy,” she said before adding, “He’s fine.”
You can watch it below:
“Welp sparring went well 😂😂😂 ( Tyree I’m coming for you next time 😜)”

While she has swapped careers and it was certainly a great choice in hindsight, Sanko does wish she could have competed more.
In fact, in a recent interview, she stated her belief that she would have had a successful UFC career if the promotion introduced an atomweight division.
“Paige VanZant and I debuted on the same card, on the same night. And we both got wins, both got finishes,” Sanko told Renee Paquette in a recent interview for The Volume Sports. “I know that if there had been an atomweight division in the UFC, I know I could’ve gone on to have a solid career in the UFC. There’s no doubt in my mind.
“There’s not much footage out there of me fighting, and I’m so much better than the footage that does exist. That’s the irritating part because my growth as a fighter really happened after I quit competing actively. … There’s definitely a part of me that wants to get back to some form of competition just to, like, prove to people that I’m about that life.”
Today, the UFC only has a strawweight, bantamweight and featherweight division as far as its female roster goes.
There have been murmurs of an atomweight division being introduced at some point, but for now, it’s too little, too late for Sanko.
