  • “The Punk” thinks Sanko is perfect for the UFC

Josh Thomson came to Laura Sanko’s defense following Jamie Varner’s distasteful comments about the female UFC commentator’s work.

Everybody needs time to get used to Laura

Speaking on his Weighing In podcast with John McCarthy, “The Punk” shared his honest thoughts on the criticisms Sanko received from former UFC lightweight Varner. As per Thomson, Sanko has been doing an exceptional job on the commentary table as well as on other aspects of her line of work.

That said, Thomson thinks Varner was wrong to slight Sanko just because he isn’t used to hearing a new yet remarkable UFC commentator.

“It is what it is. The way that the guys get excited, the way that their voice comes across in their excitement, versus the way that her voice comes across and her excitement is different and It’s something that we haven’t heard before. And so fighters are having a hard time adjusting to that, people that have been involved in the sport for a long are gonna have a hard time adjusting to that, but let’s give it some time. She does a great job, she did a great job with the Dana White Contender Series, she’s now getting into the bigger shows and she’s doing a great job there,” Thomson said of Sanko.

“But give it time. It’s gonna take time to grown on people,” he continued. “I’m sorry but she can plug and play She can do the backroom interviews, she can do the reporting, she can do the desk segment, she can lead the desk, or she can be part of the panel, she can also do the cageside commentary. She can do it all. And if you’re somebody who’s running a promotion company, if you’re somebody that has a promotion company like how the UFC is, you want someone that’s universal, someone that can plug and play anywhere you need in case someone gets sick… anytime someone can’t make it… you need that person. She is that person.”

“I don’t agree with Jamie Varner’s assessment whatsoever, I thought it was very harsh in attacking her the way he did… I really feel like it came down to he didn’t like to hear the change,” he concluded.

Laura shows Jamie her resume

While Sanko is indeed a newbie in the commentary department, she has been in the sport for a long time. In her response to Varner’s attack, Sanko let “C-4” and everybody know about her MMA pedigree and why she is confident about her knowledge of the sport.

Sanko made her UFC PPV debut last September at UFC 293. Since then, almost everybody in the promotion has been impressed with the quality of her output.
