According to His Manager, Khabib Plans To Fight Three Times Before April

Khabib Nurmagomedov has not been known for being the most active fighter. However, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz, that should be changing soon.

Khabib has not fought since defending his UFC Lightweight Title against Conor McGregor, in October. He has since been serving a suspension for his post fight antics. Now there has been an interim champion crowned, waiting on Khabib to return. According to an interview with ESPN, Abdelaziz says he has gotten strict instructions for the champ.

“He gave me very specific instructions. He said he wants to fight Sept. 7 and again in December. And if Georges St-Pierre can figure things out with the UFC by April, that’s the deal. He would like that fight in April.”

The UFC is set to go to Abu Dhabi in September, and it is expected that Khabib will headline that card. The proposed bout would be between he and interim champ Dustin Poirier. Poirier is one of many contenders in the shark tank of 155lbs however, and Abdelaziz agrees.

“The lightweight division has a lot of contenders, and we need to keep the division going. Khabib has done this before. He fought [Edson Barboza], Al [iaquinta] and Conor in less than one year. If it can be Georges in April, he would love that fight. If not, it can be any contender.”

Ali Abdelaziz went on to discuss the possibility of a rematch with Conor. Their controversial rivalry made for the highest selling UFC PPV of all time.

“He’s not a worthy enough opponent right now. That’s the feeling from all of us, as a team.”

Although not yet finalized, it seems we can expect Khabib Nurmagomedov to face Dustin Poirier in September.
