Kevin Lee is looking forward to a “tough fight” between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev at UFC 284.

Right now in the UFC, it seems like there is no division hotter than the lightweight division. There is a championship title bout on deck at UFC 284 featuring Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski and more top contenders are being matched up as well. One man who has had a history in the UFC lightweight division is Kevin Lee. He was a contender himself back in 2017 although he has spent a year or so outside the organization. He is on his way back in and is taking a good look at the champions involved in this main event.

Lee spoke to ESPN about this title fight between lightweight champion Makhachev and featherweight champ Volkanovski.

Kevin Lee feels that Alexander Volkanovski has a real chance against Makhachev

Lee has faced some of the best men in the UFC during his seven years in the organization. Although he has never faced either of these two men, he thinks he sees a scenario of how the fight will play out.

“In the actual fight itself I think that Volkanovski is a live dog, I think he can pose some real serious threats,” he said. “I think he can really challenge Islam in ways that he hadn’t necessarily been challenged with before. I think when you’re going against a smaller guy like that, it’s harder to track them down, it’s harder to pin them. So if it gets out of that first two rounds, I can see Volkanovski starting to rack up some points and you know, he’s extremely experienced, especially in a five-round fight…I’m not gonna say who win or lose but Islam better be taking him very seriously.”

Lee will be returning to the UFC this year as he previously announced. If he makes his way back to the lightweight division it is a possibility that he could find himself in the cage with the winner of this bout eventually. He had a string of bad outcomes in his last stint with the UFC, losing five of his last seven, but he was able to get himself back in the win column and could be ready to make a new path to the top.

This champion vs. champion bout between Makhachev and Volkanovski will be taking place as the main event for UFC 284 on Feb. 11 live from Perth, Australia.
