Last night (Saturday, July 14, 2018) former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos welcomes ex-World Series of Fighting’s final heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov in the main headliner of UFC Fight Night 133 from inside the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho.
‘Cigano’ returned to Octagon after being sidelined for a year due to an issue with USADA. Now Dos Santos is back in the winning column with after defeating Blagoy Ivanov via unanimous decision. After a win, Dos Santos made it clear that he wants a rubber match with Stipe Miocic. (Via MMAFighting)
“I’m not sure, but a rematch with Miocic would be very welcome,” dos Santos said.
Well, Miocic and Dos Santos had already met previously with ‘Cigano’ won their first outing via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 13 back in 2014. Then in the rematch back in 2017, Miocic successfully defended the UFC heavyweight title by the first-round TKO.
Miocic is just coming off losing his heavyweight belt at UFC 226 against Daniel Cormier last weekend. Miocic won the title two years ago, in Brazil, that transformed him from a respected contender into an all-time great and defended the title a record three consecutive times.
Now Cormier wants to defend his heavyweight strap against Brock Lesnar in a super fight probably early next year.
“The heavyweight division, there is many, many interesting things happening,” dos Santos told Laura Sanko on the UFC Boise FS1 post-fight show. “Let’s sit down with my team and soon we will know.”
Does a Dos Santos vs. Miocic Trilogy make sense next?
