News coming out of Brazil today is that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (20-1), will be defending his title early in 2012 against top contender Chad “Money” Mendes (11-0).
Aldo revealed the matchup today, during an event in Rio de Janeiro, with his manager Andre Pederneiras confirming the news to TATAME.com.
Team Alpha Male’s Chad Mendes has yet to taste defeat in his MMA career and was due to face the Brazilian wrecking machine at UFC 133, but an injury puts those plans on hold. Mendes has amassed a 6-0 record under the ZUFFA banner ( 4 wins in WEC / 2 wins in UFC). He was last seen in the cage at UFC 133, where he scored a decision win over Rani Yahya.
Jose Aldo is coming off a decision win himself, successfully defending his 145lb title against Kenny Florian at UFC 136. The win marked Aldo’s fourth defense of the title. Aldo has already beaten Chad Mendes’ teammate Urijah Faber, brutalizing “The California Kid” with vicious leg kicks.
