Eight years after hanging up his gloves for good, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell recently announced on Monday’s MMA Hour; that he’ll be fighting again and is in negotiation to take part in a trilogy fight against a rival, Tito Ortiz, possibly promoted by Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya.
Liddell (21-8) was knocked out in his last three UFC outings, with his loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 115 put a the end of his time inside the Octagon.
‘The Iceman’ said if he gets through Tito Ortiz in a trilogy, the ultimate goal of his return was to secure a fight against former 205-pound kingpin Jon Jones.
Upon hearing the latest call out from Liddell, Jon Bones Jones responds back via social media post:
Old Chuck has been calling me out for years! I get it, I hold pretty much every record in the division. I normally try to respect my elders but if you want it come get it. Id literally fly you out to Albuquerque this weekend.

In all seriousness @ChuckLiddell I appreciate your offer for a fight, but due to scheduling conflicts may not be able to fulfill till mid 2019 .
In the Upcoming months I have similarly lethal opponents in Ric Flair and George Foreman awaiting .— BONY (@JonnyBones) May 15, 2018
Not exactly respecting his elders…
Jones has been sitting out on a USADA suspension following a second failed drug test after knocking out Daniel Cormier at UFC 217 and is facing a four-year suspension.
The 48-year-old hall of fame and “Bones” ruled over the light heavyweight division for years under their respective reigns.
Jones became the youngest ever champion in UFC history when he TKOd Mauricio “Shogun” Rua back at UFC 126. Liddell had a dominant run as champion until a left hook by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 71 ended his time at the top of the UFC’s notorious deepest division.
