In the post-fight press conference, Gustafsson doubled down on this decision.
“Yeah I am. I’m done. It feels like I don’t have it in me anymore to be honest. I did a mistake that I shouldn’t do and I just have a feeling it’s the time now. I don’t want to be a journeyman. I don’t want to do this just because I’m getting paid. I just want to do this because I love it and I want to be at the top.”
After hearing this news, “The Mauler’s” biggest rival, Jon Jones, gave his thoughts. He took to Twitter to speak his mind.
Honestly I don’t believe you but if you’re serious, thank you for everything. You held the division to a standard and made us better. Go kick ass with that Family.

Jones then followed this up with a picture he shared, from the first time the two fought.

“Let the good times roll”
Alexander Gustafsson’s decision to retire comes following his second straight loss. The former, was a rematch with the aforementioned Jones. In this bout, Gustafsson was thoroughly dominated, and finished in the fourth.
With a second straight loss, it would appear that Alexander Gustafsson would have quite the climb back to the title picture. His intent to hang up the gloves was suggested before the bout. Losing in the fashion he did, likely sealed the deal.
No matter what, Middle Easy hopes the Swede has much success in all of his ventures.
