Joe Rogan advocated for the UFC to sign Michael Schiavello as a commentator for Muay Thai events.

ONE Championship has arguably revolutionized combat sports promotioning by organizing world-class fights in multiple disciplines, including MMA, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling.

As a result, legendary commentator Joe Rogan has voiced his interest in seeing the UFC promote Muay Thai fights with four-ounce gloves. During a recent podcast episode with Eddie Bravo, Rogan had this to say:

“The UFC should hire Michael Schiavello and do a f*cking Muay Thai card. Dana [White], I’ll commentate. You heard me, I’ll f*cking commentate it.”

Michael Schiavello has solidified his name into combat sports history as a commentator for K-1, King of the Cage, and ONE Championship. The 48-year-old has also commentated other significant sporting events, including the 2008 Olympics.

Michael Schiavello responds to Joe Rogan’s requests for UFC to promote Muay Thai

Michael Schiavello continues to commentate various combat sports events, including Tim Tszyu vs. Brian Mendoza on October 15. With that said, Schiavello is extremely interested in Joe Rogan’s idea for a UFC Muay Thai event.

Once Rogan’s comments went viral, Schiavello shared many posts on Twitter advocating for the concept to come true, including the following message:

“.@joerogan has an idea for @ufc to do a Muay Thai show in 4oz gloves and he tells @danawhite here that he will commentate it! @Mickmaynard2 LET’S DO IT! The awesome machine of the world’s #1 martial arts organisation UFC behind the most spectacular striking sport!”

He followed up with another tweet several days later:

“Agree UFC Striking. 4oz gloves. Let’s do it! Stand and bang! @danawhite @joerogan @Mickmaynard2 No retreat, no surrender”

It’s unclear if Dana White and the UFC are interested in pursuing anything other than MMA.

Earlier this year, the UFC and WWE officially merged to create TKO, a company actively trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Therefore, there’s a chance the new business venture could lead to more combat sports being pursued, including kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Only time will tell if Dana White is interested in promoting anything other than MMA and the occasional boxing prospect.
