Joe Rogan talked about how he was once supposed to fight Wesley Snipes in a sanctioned MMA bout.

Between 1990 and 2000, Snipes was featured in various unforgettable movies, including his lead roles in the Blade trilogy. Despite making millions of dollars, the American actor found himself in serious legal trouble due to millions of dollars in tax debt.

In 2010, Snipes began looking for quick ways to earn money to pay off his debt. As a result, he started negotiating for an MMA fight with Joe Rogan, a jiu-jitsu practitioner with plenty of childhood experience in taekwondo and kickboxing.

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the legendary podcaster and UFC commentator had this to say about almost fighting Snipes:

“I was supposed to fight Wesley Snipes. That was real. There was lawyers in negotiation. I was training twice a day for six months. That was f*cking hard. I was so tired all the time, and I only got a taste of what it’s like to train like an MMA fighter. I was training knowing that the fight was eventually going to take place, so I was building up a base. So, I was kickboxing every morning and then I was doing jiu-jitsu every night. I was doing it for six months.”

Joe Rogan explains why his fight with Wesley Snipes didn’t materialize

Joe Rogan has never fought in a sanctioned MMA bout. With that said, he’s showcased his brutal kicking power and jiu-jitsu black belt skills, which would be dangerous for an untrained opponent like Wesley Snipes.

Luckily for Snipes, he decided not to fight Rogan. The UFC commentator explained why during the previously mentioned JRE podcast episode:

“I think because he knew I was going to kill him. I think in the beginning he thought that he would be able to stuff takedowns, and he would kick my a*s. Then he found out, no, I’m a taekwondo champion, and I’m a kickboxer. I’m way better at standing up than I am on the ground.”

Rogan continued:

“I don’t know what happened, but there was a bunch of different demands. At first, it was going to be 50/50 and then he wanted to be 60/40, and I’d agreed to everything. Finally, it was like, okay, give me just this amount of money and give him whatever else the f*ck you want. I’m like, I’m going to f*cking strangle that guy, let me get a hold of him. It never happened.”

Wesley Snipes avoided the fight with Joe Rogan but couldn’t get out of his legal issues. Snipes served 28 months in federal prison before being released on April 2, 2013. Since then, the American actor has continued appearing in TV shows and movies.
