Jiri Prochazka feels Alex Pereira isn’t very diverse when it comes to his overall MMA skill set.
On November 11, Prochazka and Pereira will collide for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. The title fight was put in place after previous champion Jamahal Hill ruptured his Achilles during a basketball game. Now, the Prochazka vs. Pereira championship fight will co-headline UFC 295 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jiri Prochazka Dismisses Alex Pereira’s All-Around Game
Speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Jiri Prochazka expressed his belief that Alex Pereira will not be able to match him in any area of MMA on fight night.
“I will be better in the striking, I will be better in wrestling, and I will be better on the ground,” Prochazka said. “Doesn’t matter for me if I end it in the standup by punches kicks, whatever or if I have to choke him. For me, it doesn’t matter. I will be open for all the opportunities, what the moment gives me.”
The former UFC light heavyweight champion then doubled down, saying that Glover Teixeira’s star pupil is only good in one area of MMA.
“It’s for me, like, beautiful story and big challenge,” Prochazka said. “Yeah, big challenge because I have to say Alex is not good martial artist, like, on the ground, on the wrestling, but one thing he can do, he knows to do, and that’s his striking and it will be pleasure to beat him in the standup.”
Fight fans are expecting a barn burner between Prochazka and Pereira. It’s two former UFC champions fighting to add another piece of hardware to their mantle. They also both happen to have exciting fighting styles with a combined seven post-fight bonuses to prove it. Time will tell who lays claim to UFC gold a second time.
